160 years of our success story told in stages

Below, we detail the most important stages of Silvateam Group, with more than 160 years of successes and developments:

  • 1854

    First factory for the chestnut extraction production  in Italy

    In Corsaglia di Frabosa, Dr. Sebastiano Camperi founded the first Italian factory for tannin extraction. The name given at that time was “gallic acid for dyeing”.

  • 1872

    The company Fratelli Jemina, Campra, Odetti & C.

    The chestnut extract factory of the Fratelli Jemina, Campra, Odetti & C. is built in San Giacomo di Frabosa Sottana.

  • 1877

    The Bank of Mondovi is founded

    Mondovi bank is founded, an institute which financially managed the start of the Silvateam Group.

  • 1878

    Bank and Industry

    The bank of Mondovì acquires 50% of the two factories of Corsaglia and Pamparato.

  • 1900

    Jemina & Battaglia

    The Company “Extracts for Dying and Tanning Jemina” is started.

  • 1906

    Mondovi plant

    The company built the Mondovì Borgatto plant with a production capacity close to 1,500 tons per year, the biggest at that time.

  • 1918

    Ledoga

    An agreement was signed between the two companies which led Ledoga to acquire 33% of the Jemina factory.

  • 1925

    La Escondida

    La Escondida factory is built in Argentina, still today one of most important production sites of the Silvateam Group.

  • 1950

    The furfural

    Between 1950 and 1955 the chestnut extract plants of Moncalieri, Garessio, Villafranca and the quebracho extract of La Escondida were equipped with new equipment for the production of furfural in order to utilize the residues obtained from tannin extraction.

  • 1952

    Quebracho

    Jemina & Battaglia Company purchased 15% of Noetinger & Lepetit, thus gaining access to quebracho extract production.

  • 1963

    Chestnut extract

    In October, production at the new plant of San Michele Mondovì started with a production capacity of 15,000 tons per year of tannin. This was the largest chestnut extract plant in the world.

    During the following years, all the Piedmont plants of Ledoga and Jemina & Battaglia were built.

  • 1965

    Indunor

    Noetinger & Lepetit Sa merged with La Chaqueña Sa, which produced quebracho extract in Villa Angela, in the province of Chaco. Indunor Sa was inaugurated, concentrating all the production in the plant of La Escondida. Following several consolidations, for instance, Welbers Sa and part of the Carlos Casado Sa, and thanks to continuous improvements in equipment and the optimization of the processes, Indunor reached a production capacity of 25,000 tons per year of quebracho extract.

  • 1972

    The synthetic tannins

    The production of synthans is also transferred to San Michele Mondovi. It was previously produced by Ledoga in its Garessio plant.

  • 1998

    Furfuryl alcohol

    In La Escondida, a plant is created for the production of furfuryl alcohol, with a capacity of 2,000 tons per year.

  • 1999

    The resins

    A new reactor is installed for the production of QS resins for foundry applications and a plant for the extraction of alcohol from vegetable tannins.

  • 1999

    Silvachimica

    Silvachimica Srl is established concentrating the activities of the Group related to fine chemicals and, in particular, to the production and distribution of synthetic tannins, fatliquors and other auxiliaries for tanning.

    The company has a production plant in San Michele Mondovì and four sales organizations with warehouses and direct technical assistance in Castelfranco di Sotto (Tuscany), Arzignano (Veneto), Estancia Velha (Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil) and Guangzhou (Guangdong, China).

  • 1999

    Industria Chimica Lombarda

    Silvateam broadened its commitment to fatliquors by purchasing Industria Chimica Lombarda Srl, a company founded in the 1930s by Enrico Mattei, founder of Eni, a historic brand in this important segment of the tanning industry.

  • 2000

    The fatliquors

    The incorporation of Soda Industriale Srl, in San Michele Mondovì, led Silvachimica to start the construction of a new plant for the production of tanning oils. The first production started in September 2001 with a capacity of 15,000 tons per year.

  • 2001

    Silvateam Peru

    Silvateam Peru Sac is incorporated and Silvateam entered the important market of tara, with products for the tanning and food sectors. The production plant, the fifth of the Group, is located in the capital, Lima, whereas in the regions of Huánuco and Ica plantations supplying raw materials guaranteed employment for thousands of local families.

  • 2002

    Sistema Energia

    Sistema Energia Srl is a company of the Silvateam Group created by technicians and specialized consultants with knowledge gained from many decades spent in the renewable sources energy sector. The company operates as a promoter of independent projects and as a qualified supplier of consultancy and energy management services.

  • 2003

    Silvateam

    Silvateam Spa is formed, acting as the Holding Company to optimize the organization of the Group. This involves operations, the equity financial structure and the development of new strategic activities.

  • 2004

    Sistema Energia Pellets

    Sistema Energía Pellets Srl is created for the production of pellets for domestic and industrial heating, using the residues from the extraction of the chestnut tannins.

  • 2004

    Mark Produtos Químicos

    Silvateam increased its commercial structure acquiring Mark Produtos Químicos Ltda, a Brasilian company with offices in the city of Estancia Velha (Rio Grande do Sul), the most important tanning area of the country.

    Mark Produtos Químicos markets all the products of the Group used for tanning. It also has Research & Development activities in a modern laboratory which was later expanded by adding a finishing sector.

  • 2004

    Silvateam Foshan

    This company is was set up to enable the group to operate directly in the Far East market. Located in the area around Guangzhou (China), Silvateam Foshan Co. Ltd operates as a commercial, distribution and technical assistance center for customers.

  • 2005

    A. Forte

    With the acquisition of A. Forte Srl di Capannori (Lucca, Tuscany) a historic brand in the market, Silvateam consolidated its leading position in the fatliquors market for tanning.

  • 2005

    Silvateam Veneto

    Silvateam inaugurated a new distribution branch in Arzignano (Vicenza, Veneto), an important Italian center for the production of leather for automotive upholstery, furniture, and shoes.

    Silvateam Veneto Srl has a warehouse of 800 m2 and a laboratory for application tests run by qualified technicians.

  • 2007

    Silva Extracts

    After the success of Tara gum, Silvateam entered the food ingredients market with the creation of Silva Extracts Srl and the construction of a new production plant in Rende (Cosenza, Calabria) for the production of additives for the food industry, such as citrus pectin, hydrocolloid blends and other natural extracts.

  • 2008

    Silvateam Food Ingredients – R&D Bergamo

    In 2008 Silvateam Food Ingredients Srl created a new research, commercial and technical assistance center in Bergamo, to test hydrocolloids and stabilizers, develop new products following the market trends and guaranteeing specialized technical assistance to customers.

  • 2010

    Internal reorganization

    Forte Srl merged with Silvachimica Srl. Sistema Energía Pellets Srl merged with Ledoga Srl. Sistema Energía Srl changed its name to Silvateam Energía Srl.
