Energy from renewable and conventional sources
Silvateam has carried out different types of projects in the energy sector permitting the company to apply the highest level of knowledge in the design and engineering of:
Proven experience in biomass combustion
Broad experience in the design and construction of biomass power plants has allowed Silvateam to develop innovative solutions which help to increase the yield thus reducing the environmental impact.
The company has proven experience in the combustion of the following types of biomasses (according to Italian Legislative Decree n. 152/06):
- Virgin wood chips (vegetable waste).
- Tannin free wood chips.
- Exhausted olive residues.
- Black liquor, a waste product from the processes of the pulp, paper and paperboard industries.
- Nutshells.
Currently, the size of the power plants in the design stage is of around 15MW, due to the development of the regulations and the guidelines of the appropriate authorities. This plant size gives access to a simplified authorisation procedure (Art. 12 of Legislative Decree n. 387/2003) which obtains very high energy efficiency of up to 30%, using advanced technologies.
The use of biomass power plants includes the following activities:
- Identification of the most suitable sites for technical and environmental features.
- Feasibility studies which research energy balances and profit & loss accounts.
- Basic engineering and development of the layout associated with their views and sections.
- Drafting of the necessary documents to obtain the authorizations and assistance in dealing with public administrations.
- Applying for government funding.
- Construction engineering.
- Construction of power plants using affiliated companies under the supervision of Silvateam’s skilled staff (site managers, safety managers, etc.).
- Power plant start-up.
- Staff training for plant personnel and management.

Zero impact renewable energy, fully integrated with the environment
Silvateam has considerable expertise in hydroelectric power plants, both in the construction of new plants as well as in revamping existing facilities. In the case of revamping there is an assessment of modifications needed to the existing facilities in order to obtain the total or partial revamping qualification with the granting of state incentives for renewable energy.
The main stages related to the design and the implementation of the power plants are the following:
- Hydromorphological mapping of the river (flow, drop, etc.) determining the barrage and plant positions and the type of turbine to be used.
- Technical and economic feasibility studies including the amount of investment and annual production of electricity. The value of the electricity and the state incentives for renewable energy. The cost of maintenance, staff, consumables and potential local taxes are also evaluated.
- Basic engineering including the cost of the equipment for the plant and following the technical and economic development.
- Acquisition of all the authorizations necessary for the construction and operation of the plant, granted from all the governing authorities.
- Plant construction including barrages, dams, fish ladders, penstocks, and tunnels. It is also possible to provide site and safety managers.
- Power plant start-up.
- Staff training for plant personnel and management.
Silvateam cooperates with banks and participates in local, regional or national funding.
Our experts analyze all the possible environmental risks related to the river, from the dam to the turbine, during and after the construction and while operating the plant. The environmental impact is very low.
We use heat for several industrial applications
Silvateam has extensive experience in the design, management, and operation of thermal cycles installed in its manufacturing plants.
Our design of thermal cycles is based on the reliability of the plant and the energy savings.
Silvateam provides consultancy services for existing plants with thermal and/or electrical energy problems, guaranteeing the delivery of the expected results.
Energy reduction and sustainability
In order to optimize its own energy consumption, the company has adopted cogeneration as the main technology.
This system allows Silvateam to obtain, from a unique plant, both thermal and electrical energy while increasing significantly the efficiency and reducing the costs.

Heating for everyone while preserving the environment
Silvateam has significant knowledge in the design and construction of district heating plants for the production of heating for residential and industrial uses. This knowledge covers:
- Identifying the most suitable locations for the technical and environmental undertakings.
- Feasibility studies which include local climate characteristics, estimation of the volume of heat produced, plant location and possible technologies to use for heat generation.
- Basic engineering and developments of plans.
- Construction engineering of the district heating power plant and related sub-central divisions while focusing on the distribution network.
- Construction of district heating plants using affiliated companies under the supervision of Silvateam’s skilled staff (site managers, safety managers, etc.).
- Power plant start-up.
- Staff training for plant personnel and management.
- Drafting of contracts for final users.
Silvateam is involved in obtaining all authorisations necessary for the construction and operation of the district heating plant with the appropriate authorities at local and national level. The company cooperates with banks and participates in local, regional and national funding.
During the approval stages, Silvateam provides gas effluent and acoustic impact studies, evaluating solutions of low environmental impact.
Working in harmony with the sun
Silvateam is able to design, create and install large and medium-sized photovoltaic power plants.
The main aspects to be taken into considerations are:
- Identification of the available places for the establishment of the plant with a focus on the existence of landscape problems and potential areas of shadow
- Feasibility study which includes solar radiation measurements in order to define the types of panels to be used - single crystal, polycrystalline, amorphous, fine film, etc - and the relative slope tilt. Also, installed power and the annual energy production calculations are carried out. There are also accurate studies about shadows and the benefits of the installation of concentrators and solar tracking systems
Company experts can provide all the basic construction engineering proposals, with the relative technical and economic features for the selection of different suppliers. Silvateam also offers “turnkey” plants.
The personnel is trained on technical and legal matters in order to offer customers state-of-the art solutions complying with the current legislation.
In the photovoltaic field, Silvateam can carry out all the procedures for the authorizations for the construction and operation of the plants and the authorizations to obtain state incentives for renewable energy.
Before submitting any documentation, Silvateam evaluates if the selected places are subject to any landscape restrictions: if that is the case, the company organizes preliminary meetings with the competent authorities for the evaluation of the visual impact and the feasibility of the project.
