Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol

Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol (THFA) is environmentally friendly and water miscible specialty solvent manufactured in our plant at La Escondida, Argentina.

Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol is produced commercially by catalytic hydrogenation of furfuryl alcohol using the Nickel based catalyst of high activity and selectivity. THFA has a purity of 98.5%.

THFA is a low cost, biodegradable solvent mainly used as a reactive diluent for epoxy resins and is a good solvent for many of the curative and catalysts used in epoxy formulations. THFA will accelerate the cure of Bisphenol, resins with either aliphatic or aromatic amine curative.  It is also used in the following applications:

  • Biocide and pesticide formulations.
  • Stripping formulations.
  • Electronic cleaner formulations.
  • Coatings, dyes and printing ink.
  • Epoxy curing agent.

Furfuryl alcohol is shipped in metal drums of 240kg, tanks of 1,000kg, and tank container respectively of 21 - 25t. The containers are made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and in an atmosphere of inert nitrogen gas (N2) which are oxygen-free to prevent oxidation during transport.
