Maca extract

Peruvian ginseng

Silvateam maca extract is obtained from the roots of the homonymous plant (Lepidium meyenii) belonging to the family of Brassicaceae / Cruciferae. These roots are in the form of a tuber, similar to sweet potato. The maca tree grows wild up to 3,000 to 4,000 meters above the sea level in the valleys of Peru. Maca extract has been used for centuries by the Inca population, in particular for its energy and aphrodisiac characteristics, so that it is known as "Peruvian ginseng".

By virtue of its excellent nutritional properties, very similar to those of cereals, the maca root is still a key element of the diet of Andean people. The dried root is rich in carbohydrates (59%) and protein (10.2%) but has a low lipid content (2.2%) and a discrete fiber content (8.5%). Particularly relevant is the content of amino acids and essential fatty acids as well as vitamins (A, B1, B2, B12, C, D and E) and minerals (calcium, iron, phosphorus, copper, potassium, magnesium and zinc).

The maca extract is used by athletes for its energizing properties. Thanks to its high iron content it is ideal for mountaineers, where they need better oxygenation and higher hemoglobin production. Maca also contributes to an increase in muscle mass.

Maca is a stimulant for the nervous system and improves concentration and memory. It is an aid for people that suffer from chronic fatigue and light depression and it is useful for students and managers in order to overcome times of psycho-physical stress.

Thanks to the high vitamin content, antioxidants, flavonoids, essential fatty acids, phosphorus and oligo-elements, maca extract slow down the degenerative processes of cellular aging, prevents hair loss and keeps skin hydrated by giving tone to the tissues.

The maca extract increases the libido and is effective with male impotence. It is also useful in ovarian dysfunction and hot flashes during menopause.
