Animal wellbeing for a sustainable future

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. It maps a new, sustainable and inclusive growth strategy to boost the economy, improve people's health and quality of life, care for nature, and leave no one behind.

At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries to improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth.

Silvateam’s mission wants to follow this holistic path to sustainable development, exploiting the natural gifts of its extracts to reduce the environmental and climate footprint of the food system and strengthen its resilience, ensuring food security in the face of climate change and reaching a competitive sustainability, from farm to fork.

Chestnut and quebracho tannins, saponins and polyphenols can help reducing specific greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions, being able to influence manure composition and quantity to decrease the feed derived excretion of nitrogen into the environment. Our R&D focus is to exploit these natural properties in order to help reducing the emissions of GHGs such as methane (CH4), ammonia (NH3) and nitrous oxide (N2O), therefore lowering direct and indirect carbon footprint emissions from animal production.

At the same time, increases in antimicrobial resistance are reinforcing an already-urgent need for sustainable, alternative solutions for maintaining optimal gut health in livestock. The bioactive molecules present in Silvafeed can certainly be one, thanks to their strong and selective inhibitory activity to which these harmful pathogens do not develop resistance.
